The 2008
Corvettes Down Under Car Club
Christmas Party

Sunday’s perfect weather conditions made it hard to believe the extremes of gale force winds, deluge rains and destruction during the past week.  Apart from an occasional gust of wind the day was Ideal.

There was no mistaking the venue with an impressive line up of approximately 20 Corvettes on the grassy verge in front of our hosts’ Robyn and Owen residence.  After a warm welcome and receiving our gift bags we were ushered into the Gorton Cricket Ground just in time for the match.  Being of a competitive nature this appealed to me immensely.  Obviously a lot of work had gone into preparing the pitch.

The rules were read and the teams faced off with quite a few hilarious lunges, dives, some good hits and numerous altercations with the umpires.

The women displayed much skill and prowess, while the men complained incessantly, blaming the size of the bat for their poor performance (as they do).  For me the highlight was Robyn doing the rounds of the grounds on her lawn tractor offering refreshments from her esky full of cold drinks, to parched players.

Catch of the day was George’s one handed take, skilfully handled without spilling a drop of his liquid refreshment.  I’d have to say that I had the hit of the day, managing to totally destroy the stumps, hit a tree and maybe even got it over the fence – 3 out in 1 hit!

Following this nail biting match we were then rewarded with a sumptuous Christmas feast a delicious array of roast meats and salads.  After many happy members winning raffle prizes, dessert was served.  I haven’t fed Bob since he sampled every on of the 25 decadent desserts on offer.

Well fuelled for our long drive home we headed off back to 1770.  Thank you for a most enjoyable day.  Christmas wishes to you all.
